This post is the fourth in a series of five on free Internet tools that can assist in finding a job and advancing your career.

What is RSS? It’s really simple syndication, which essentially means you can go to one spot and get all of the updates on everything of interest. Add websites and blogs to your RSS Reader (I recommend Google Reader for the user-interface design) by grabbing the RSS feed url of a site.
In the corner of most websites is an orange box with radio waves. This will typically be the location to find the RSS feed’s url. Right-click and ‘copy link location’ to copy the address. In Google Reader, click ‘Add a subscription’ (top left corner) and you’re done! If the site you want to track has no RSS feed button, just copy and paste the url into the same location and choose from a list of possible feeds to subscribe to.

How can using an RSS reader help you score a great job? Start by finding relevant job search engines to your industry. Sites such as Craigslist, Dice, and Monster all have RSS feeds for their job listings. With Craigslist, you can even get more specified results by going directly to the relevant job listing page and adding the feed url (located at the bottom) to your reader. This way, you can keep up on all new listings without having to visit each separate site.
